Turks and Caicos

Grand Turk is the biggest of the Turks and Caicos islands. They are located at the tail end of the Bahamas islands to the south.

One of the best dive sites in the world this area has an untouched feel to it. The prime spot for diving and snorkelling is the famous 7000 foot drop. This is where the water is very shallow-about chest deep  then suddenly drops off to 7000 feet deep. Dolphins, stingrays and a myriad of other marine life live here. There are hundreds of different kinds of coral that live in these waters also.

The beach Image

The one located nearest the drop is very rocky! You must wear water shoes here. The sand is made up of calcified waste of the parrot fish or so we were told while there. This sand is extremely soft on the feet at beach level but once in the water it is in solid clumps that will have you screaming bloody murder if you do not take my advice. Image

If you come here by cruise ship the dock is right at the beach-very convenient. Yo have to enter the beach area from the visitors centre where they check all cruise ship passengers identification.

The drop

We took the excursion that uses a semi-sub to view the 7000 foot drop.In my opinion this is the way to go for sure. You are safe from harm and dry and can concentrate on the view instead of breathing. Our guides were most helpful and knowledgeable.

Provo

Provedenciales is the most popular  island choice for tourists coming in by plane. Although it is expensive for travellers to stay here the standard of living is not very high for those who live here.  For them everything is expensive and there are not alot of industries.

If you go

Please remember to take only pictures and leave only memories so this unspoilt playground will remain so.
